As we reported, the European Wrestling Championship held in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, has come to an end.
The representatives of “Neftchi” Sports Club, who are part of the Azerbaijani national teams, fought confidently in the prestigious competition and achieved great success. Thus, our athletes won 10 medals of the European Championship in total, including 3 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze.
Greco-Roman wrestlers Nihat Mammadli (60 kg), Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) and Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) won all their matches and became European champions. Eldeniz Azizli (55 kg) won silver, and Ulvu Ganizadeh (72 kg) and Islam Abbasov (87 kg) won bronze medals.
Freestyle wrestlers Ali Rahimzade (65 kg), Kenan Heybatov (70 kg) and Aganazar Novruzov (74 kg) finished the continental championship with bronze medals. Our female wrestler Jala Aliyeva (57 kg) also took the third step of the podium.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team became the continental champion in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling at the European Championship.
It is gratifying that representatives of the “Neftchi” Sports Club played a large role in achieving this success. Thus, 10 of the 13 medals won belong to our club’s athletes. In addition, all the medals won in Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling go to the athletes of the “Neftchi” Sports Club.
