The U-20 European Wrestling Championship, held in Novi Sad, Serbia, has come to an end. During the last days of the competition, freestyle wrestlers joined the contest.

From the freestyle wrestlers of “Neftçi” Sports Club, Vasif Baghirov (57 kg) faced Russian Lev Pavlov in the final. The decisive match was contested on a point-for-point basis. Although our wrestler led for a long time, he lost the initiative near the end of the match. Ultimately, Vasif Baghirov, who was defeated 6-8, was awarded the silver medal.

Jamal Abbasov (61 kg) faced Russian Andrey Midlovets in the final. Although our compatriot finished the first half with a minimal lead, his opponent, who stood out with his physical attributes, wrestled better in the second half. In the end, Jamal Abbasov, who was defeated 1-6, took second place.

Anar Jafarli (92 kg) faced Russian Mustafaqadji Malakhdibirov in the final. Although our representative started well, he couldn’t escape the series of “cross” moves by his opponent. As a result, Anar Jafarli also had to settle for a silver medal.

Yusif Dursunov (125 kg) won by a pin against Italian Martino Piliero in the consolation match. Our wrestler, who triumphed in a tense bronze medal contest against Ukrainian Ivan Miroshnichenko (3-2), secured the third place on the podium.

It should be noted that earlier, our club’s female wrestler Ruzanna Mammadova (59 kg) became the European champion, and our Greco-Roman wrestler Ismayil Rzayev (82 kg) also claimed a silver medal.

Thus, the wrestlers of “Neftçi” Sports Club, who competed confidently, concluded the prestigious tournament with 6 medals (1 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze).
