The European
judo championship continues in Kazan, Russia. 394 athletes from 46 countries
have competed in the tournament, which is important
to win a license for Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.The national
team of Azerbaijan has won a medal on the first day of the championship.The judoka of
“Neftchi” Sports Club Orkhan Safarov has won the medal for our country. Competing
in the 60 kg weight category our sportsman has started the fight from the 1/8
final. In the first meeting our athlete has won the judoka of Luxembourg Tom
Schmit and then has defeated the Belarusian representative Arif Baghirov
(Azerbaijani by origin). In the next match Safarov has won over the Dutchman Jeroen Muren and in the semi-final has defeated the sportsman of
Italy Elios Manzi and has reached to the final. But in the decisive match he
has lost to the French Walide Khyar and has been awarded the silver medal of
the European Championship.The club’s other
judoka competing in the same weight class Ilgar Mushkiyev has become the 7th
place.Note that, the
continental championship will end on 24 April.
