5th WJKA European Championships among
karate fighters were held in Cherkassy, Ukraine. In the tournament athletes
from 25 countries competed.Our country was represented by 10 karateists in the competition and 5
of them were the athletes of “Neftchi Sports Club”. The athletes of the club
won 3 gold and 1 bronze medals of the championship. Sadi Namazov (21-39 years
old) became European Champion in the kata competitions. Emin Mammadov owned a
gold medal in the kumite competitions and Araz Babayev won a bronze medal. And
another karateist Royal Hagverdiyev (16-17 years old) became the champion in
the kumite competitions.
