The “Grand Slam” tournament ended held in Paris, France. 412 athletes (259 men, 153 women) from 61 countries participated in the tournament and our national team joined the tournament with 7 judokas.The national team won 3 medals of the prestigious tournament. It is very nice that, all three medalists are the judokas of “Neftchi Sports Club”. Orkhan Safarov (60 kg) won In-Hyuk Choi (KOR), Gusman Kyrgyzbayev (KAZ) and Vincent Limare (FRA) and qualified for the final. In the final Safarov lost to his opponent and faced with Eric Takabatake (BRA) for bronze medal. He won his opponent in this match and took the third place.Another judoka of the club Nijat Shikhalizada won Daga Qing (CHN) in the first match. Then he won Kenneth Van Gansbeke (BEL). But he lost to Anzaur Ardanov (RUS) and joined to the the repechage match. At this stage, he won over Tal Flicker (ISR) and Antoine Bouchard (CAN) in the fight for 3rd place and owned a bronze medal.The judokas of the club Rustam Orujov (73 kg) faced with Hidayat Heydarov. Hidayat Heydarov was more successful than his teammate and has won a bronze medal. Rustam Orujov took the 5th place in the “Grand Slam” tournament.So, the judokas of our club Orkhan Safarov (60 kg), Nijat Shikhalizada (66 kg) and Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) owned bronze medals of the “Grand Slam” Tournament.Note that, the President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation Mr. Rovnag Abdullayev and the Vice-President of the Federation Mr. Sadig Sadigov watched the prestigious tournament held in Paris and they supported for our athletes.
