The European Judo
Championship was finished held in Kazan, Russia. 394 athletes (229 men, 195 women) from 46 countries competed
in the tournament, which is important to win a license for Rio 2016 Summer
Olympics.The member of the national team, the judoka of “Neftchi” Sports Club
Rustam Orujov (73 kg) won one more medal for our country. In the first meeting
he won the Lithuanian Kestutis Vitkauskas. Our representative defeated the
athlete of Czech Republic Jakub JECMINEK by the same trick. Orujov won
over the Slovenian Rok Draksic in the quarter-final and the Russian judoka
Denis Iartcev in the semi-final and qualified for the final. In the decisive
match, our sportsmen came face to face with the Georgian Lasha Shavdatuashvili
and became the European champion.Recall that, on the first day of the championship another representative
of our club Orkhan Safarov (60 kg) lost only in the final and was awarded the
silver medal.Note that, Azerbaijani judokas won bronze medal in the team
competitions, held in Kazan. Our judokas won the Latvian team with the score of
4:1. But the team was defeated by the next opponent Poland national team with
the score of 2:3 and joined the consolatory matches. Our judokas won the Greece
national team (3:2) here and encountered
with the team of France in the fight for bronze medal. The athletes
demonstrated great determination and professionalism and defeated the opponents
with the score of 3:2 and won the bronze medal of the European Championship.The head of administration of “Neftchi Sports Club” Public Union and
vice-president of the International Judo Federation Sadig Sadigov has watched
the live championship in Kazan and has congratulated the judokas on the
occasion of the bright victory.
