The European U23 Judo Championship was finished held in Tel Aviv Israel. 321 judokas from 40 countries (190 boys, 131 girls) took part in the prestigious tournament and the national team joined the competition with 9 judokas. The team won 2 medals (1 gold and 1 silver) of the championship.
The gold medal was taken by the judoka of "Neftchi Sports Club” Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg). The judoka defeated Cypriot Carilaos Hadjiadamou with ippon. In the next stages Heydarov won The Belgian athlete Loic Demierbev, the Kosovar athlete Akil Qjakova and the Russian athlete Sayan Onder and qualified for the final. In the final the judoka also won the native-born athlete Tohar Butulla by ippon and became the European champion.
